Sean Baggett presents First Peoples Lecture - Sharing the Land with the People of the First Light: A Story of Place Memory, and Belonging.

Sean is a resident of Hull Village, a graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and a former U.S. Naval Officer. A lifelong reader and student of history, Sean sees the importance of connecting the past with the present—especially through his community talks and local tours. He is also a longtime mindfulness practitioner and instructor, integrating teachings from Eastern philosophy to help others cultivate awareness, compassion, and clarity.

He will begin this lecture of the Native Americans of this region with a brief history of how humans evolved and migrated across the world and the effects of the Ice Age. He will then delve into the Algonquin and Wampanoag tribes, their customs and belief systems, and their relationship with the English at Patuxet. Finally, he will address how the relationship unraveled and what lessons we can garner. This 90-minute lecture with a break about halfway through.
